In the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections, JPA’s candidate for Sunamganj-1 Constituency Md. A. Mannan and BNM’s candidate for Sunamganj-4 Constituency, former Member of Parliament Dewan Shamchul Abedin withdrew from the vote.  Jatiya Party candidate for Sunamganj-1 Constituency Md. A. Mannan withdrew from the election complaining of not getting cooperation from central leaders.  He gave this information at a press conference with journalists of the upazila at Jamalganj Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.  Japa candidate Abdul Mannan Talukder said, “After getting the nomination on the plow symbol, I have been campaigning regularly.  But I am not getting any response even after communicating with the central leaders regarding campaigning and election related matters.  They are not helping me.  “It seems and I understand clearly that there will be seat-sharing and sham elections.  So I withdrew myself from the 12th National Assembly elections.”  At that time, some party leaders and activists were present with Md. A. Mannan.
On the other hand, BNM’s candidate for Sunamganj-4 constituency, former Member of Parliament Dewan Shamchul Abedin, has withdrawn from the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections, citing the lack of a level playing field and various conspiracies between the two rival candidates.  He announced his withdrawal from the election through a press conference called at his residence on Tuesday at 3 pm.  Alleging that there is no level playing field in the election field, Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM) candidate Dewan Shamchul Abedin said, “There are various conspiracies against me since I stood in the election. I thought at first that the election would be fair but now I have to say what I am seeing.”  There is no level playing field for elections in the country. There is no possibility of a fair election here, besides, Awami League and Jatiya Party candidates in this seat are raking in money with both hands. They are giving money wherever they go. It is not an election environment. So I have decided to withdraw from the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections.  to stand and I am not a candidate from today and have rejected the next January 7 polls. Jatiya Party candidates have been MPs without votes in past elections and boat candidates are also trying to score in an empty field.”
