The central committee of the Haor Bachao Andolan held a protest rally in solidarity with the worried farmers as the work of the Haor dam was not completed even after the extended period.

On Thursday (March 7) morning at the entrance of Sunamganj District Commissioner’s office, people from various professions including the leaders of farmers’ organization of Haor participated in the protest rally.

Speakers in the rally said that according to the policy, the work of Sunamganj dam was supposed to be completed on February 28, but the time for the second phase has passed. Many Howre dams have not been completed yet. Due to the indifference and negligence of the pubo in charge of the dam and the concerned administration, the farmers of Haor are in fear of early floods as the dam work is not completed even after an extended period of time. If the dam work is not completed before the rains, there is a risk of crop loss in Haor Dubi. In case of loss of crops in Haor, a movement will be called along with the farmers.

The speakers also said that many dam works have not started yet, the Deputy Commissioner himself had inaugurated the dam work and will check whether the dam work has been completed by February 28. Owners tend to nature if the crops come up before the rains, then they survive. But every year crores of rupees of the government are being wasted and corruption is being done, so I want to warn you now – if the farmer’s crops are damaged then no one will be exempted, everyone will have to face the law.
