600 bags of Indian sugar illegally stored in CTG; Factory owner arrested

The signboard outside says ‘Design Naksha Ghar’. Bag upon sack upon sack of Indian sugar illegally stocked inside. The mobile court seized 600 sacks of sugar after raiding this furniture factory in Bahaddarhat named  one kilometer area of Chittagong city.

On Saturday (April 27) at noon, these sugars were seized by raiding a furniture factory located in Nafiz Gali, Bahadarhat one kilometer area of the city. Arafat Siddiqui, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Kattali Circle of the city led the operation.

The owner of the factory in the campaign. Abdur Rabbani (45) was arrested. He is the son of deceased Fazal Ahmed of East Kuchukhain area of Noapara Union of Raujan Upazila of Chittagong.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Arafat Siddiqui said that around 600 sacks of illegally stored Indian sugar were seized. The stocked sugar is confirmed as Indian sugar by the District Agricultural Marketing Officer. The factory owner could not show any valid documents to purchase the sugar. Stored sugar is packed in fresh brand bags.

He also said that each seized bag contains 50 kg of sugar. These sugars have been brought into the country by evading revenue through smuggling. Sugar and the arrested person have been handed over to police custody. As these sugars were brought into the country through smuggling, a case is being filed against the person detained under the Special Powers Act.

Jahidul Kabir, OC of Chandgaon police station, said that the case regarding the seizure of 600 sacks of illegally stored sugar is under process. The person arrested in this case will be shown arrested in that case.

District Agriculture Marketing Officer Shah Md. cooperated in the campaign. Morshed Quader and SI Riyad Uch Salehin of Chandgaon police station and a team of police.
