The traditional railway junction of Shaistaganj has become a sanctuary for criminals and an arena for drug addicts. Since evening, various stalls and tong shops are crowded with thieves and robbers. Passengers carry valuables like mobile phones, chains, bags while boarding the train. They cannot be caught even by shouting. Even the members on duty are not seen assisting the passengers.

It is known that Shaistaganj is the traditional junction of Sylhet division since the Beatrice period. More than 25 trains including inter-city pass through this junction every day. Most of the robberies happen as the trains arrive at night. Journalists, lawyers, judges, magistrates are not spared from their hands, all of them are now in trouble. Already several mobile phones and gold chains have been robbed. But the police have recovered one or two but the rest are not being done.

Passengers complain that some unscrupulous members of Railways and law enforcement are behind all this. Besides, some of the rising youth in the slums are doing all this for drug money.
