An allegation has surfaced at Comilla University’s (Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall) regarding a student engaging in “disruptive behavior” at night under the influence of drugs. The accused student has been identified as Chowdhury Rafsan Sami, a student of the 2022-23 academic year in the Department of Management Studies.

Residential students of the hall reported that the student was seen behaving abnormally on the ground floor of the hall around 12:30 AM on Wednesday night (April 23rd), apparently after consuming narcotics.

According to the resident students present, around 12:30 AM, Chowdhury Rafsan Sami, a 17th batch student of the ‘Management Studies’ department, arrived at the hall and began kicking and verbally abusing the door of room 106. At one point, he allegedly knocked over the bicycles on the ground floor and threw an ‘fire extinguisher’ cylinder, spraying smoke. Junior students residing in room 106 were reportedly terrified by this.

When questioned about the incident, the accused student Rafsan stated, “I was just joking around with my friends. I released the fire extinguisher on my friend. As for kicking room 106, you can personally go and ask. Maybe I didn’t kick, I might have pushed while running around. My friend pushed me, causing the gas cylinder to fall.”

Regarding the matter, Assistant Professor Mohammad Harun, the provost of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, said, “If the eyewitness students submit a written complaint, then I can take action against it. Upon receiving a complaint, I will also issue a show-cause notice to the on-duty security guard. The security guard has been repeatedly told that he often comes here briefly and then leaves. Discussions will be held with the administration to prevent such incidents in the future.”

Proctor Professor Dr. Mohammad Hakim stated, “I cannot comment on hall matters. The provost is responsible for everything in the hall. The proctor cannot interfere in hall affairs. We can take action if the provost submits a report. If anyone consumes drugs inside the university, we will definitely punish them. Since this happened inside the hall, the hall provost will take action against it. I just found out about this, and I will speak with the provost.”
