Bangladesh saw their second consecutive defeat in the Super Four of the Asia Cup. Bangladesh lost by 21 runs against Sri Lanka after losing by 7 wickets against Pakistan. After losing the first two matches of the Super Four, the hope of the final is virtually over for Bangladesh. Batting first, Sri Lanka lost 9 wickets and collected 257 runs. In reply, the Tigers were all out for 234 runs after losing all wickets in 48.1 overs. Tawhid Hriday scored the highest 82 runs for the team.

In reply, Naeem Sheikh and Mehdi Miraj added 55 runs in the opening. Mirage was dismissed for 28 off 29 balls with four fours. Naeem caught brilliantly by scoring 21 runs off 46 balls. He only touched the bat with the ball while preparing to play pool on the bounce. Then Shakib returned with 3 runs. Litton managed to add 15 runs to the scoreboard. Bangladesh lost 4 wickets for 83 runs.

Tawhid Hriday and Mushfiqur Rahim took the lead of the team to handle that disaster. But Mushfiq was out as soon as he opened his hand. The Tiger wicket-keeper batsman scored 29 runs off 48 balls. His partnership of 72 runs off 122 balls with Hriday was broken.

After Mushfiqur’s return, Shamim Patwari came to the wicket as the last recognized batsman. But after getting 5 runs off 10 balls, he returned to Sajghar. After Shamim’s return, Tawheed Hridoy fought alone for the team. But he too could not go to the end. This right-handed batsman scored 82 for 97 runs. Nasum Ahmed and Mahmud Hasan tried on the last wicket, but it only reduced the margin of defeat.

Earlier, batsman Sadira Samarawickrama played the highest innings of 93 runs for Sri Lanka. He played that innings in 72 balls with eight fours and two sixes. Besides, opener Pathun Nishanka played an innings of 40 runs for Sri Lanka. Kushal Mendis scored 50 runs. Dashun Shanaka added 24 runs. Pacers Taskin and Hasan Mahmood took three wickets each for Bangladesh. Another pacer Shariful took two wickets. Pacers took eight of Sri Lanka’s nine wickets.
