Changing the name of Digital Security Act cheats people: Fakhrul
Dhaka/
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that the initiative to enact the Cyber Security Act by changing the name of the Digital Security Act is ‘a fraud on the people’. He said, our words are very clear, we want to repeal the Digital Security Act completely. Talked about it, demanded cancellation, held seminars. This law is the worst black law for freedom, for democracy. This law should not exist at all, we want it repealed.
He made this comment in a press conference at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon. He called this press conference at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan to announce the decision of the party’s standing committee meeting on Monday.
BNP Secretary General said, BNP thinks that changing the name of Digital Security Act is cheating the people. We want complete repeal of Digital Security Act. It is a law against democracy, a law against human rights, a law against media freedom. There can be no question of keeping it.
Trying to fool people: Mirza Fakhrul said, changing the name of the law is an attempt to fool people. There’s a lot of pressure from foreigners, there’s pressure internationally about digital security laws. Trying to convince them.
In response to a question, he said, we have not yet received the entire issue of the Cyber Security Act. We want to see what comes. After seeing that, I will talk to the media later. The issue of standing committee meeting was discussed.
Incidentally, the cabinet on Monday approved the draft of the new law, renaming the Digital Security Act as the Cyber Security Act. The Digital Security Act was passed by the National Parliament on 19 September 2018. The new cyber security law has been enacted by repealing some sections including 57, but there are concerns about its misuse as the repealed sections of the old law have been retained in the new law.
