Police rescued a tortured teenage domestic worker from the capital’s Bashundhara residential area with the help of a university student.

The missing teenager (10) from Kishoreganj was working in that house for seven years.

Bhatara police station OC Asaduzzaman said, “The girl was working as a domestic worker in a house on road number 2 of ‘D’ block in Bashundhara residential area. After the rescue, the girl said that housewife Sharmin Hossain used to torture her in various ways.

“He was not allowed to talk to anyone, he was not allowed to go out, he had to work till late at night, sometimes he was severely beaten.”

In this incident, a case has been filed against the housewife Sharmin Hossain under Section 70 of the Children Act 2013. An operation is underway to arrest him.

“We went to the flat for the arrest and could not find the door. It was locked from outside,” said OC Asaduzzaman.

He said that Sharmin had two sons and daughters living in that house after separating from her husband.

How to rescue: According to the details of the case filed by the girl’s wife, Monowara Begum, on May 7, 2016, the girl went missing while visiting her aunt’s house next to the railway line in Bhairab, Kishoreganj.

The police say that the girl lived in the kitchen of that house. A student of NorthSouth University lives on the fourth floor of the building next door to the fourth floor of the building where the girl was rescued. On realizing the torture of the maid, the student took information about the girl in a tactful manner. The girl tried to tell the student about her plight.

Inspector (Investigation) of Bhatara Police Station Shariful Islam said, “After trying for about a month, the student cleverly asked the girl to throw the rope down. When the girl tore a veil and dropped it down, the student tied a mobile phone to it. Then he heard about the torture on him through the phone.

“Later on Wednesday morning, when he called 999 for help, the police went and rescued him and brought him to the police station.”

He also said, “After the rescue, the girl could not tell her home address. Finally, with information from seven-eight police stations in Sylhet region, it was found out in the evening that his house is in Lakhai of Habiganj. After finding her brother and sister-in-law in Dhaka, when they were called to the police station, they identified the girl.
