Trafficker arrested with 63 lakh gold bars in Satkhira

A smuggler named Mahbub Alam was arrested with 7 gold bars in a police raid in Satkhira. The operation was carried out in Newmarket area of the city on Saturday (August 19).
The arrested Mahbub Alam is the son of Farhad Uddin of Chari village of Singair upazila of Manikganj district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, Maidul Islam, said that on the basis of secret information that gold would be smuggled to India, the SP Golden Line was searched from Dhaka. Meanwhile, a man named Mahbub Alam was challenged and 7 gold bars hidden in his body were seized. The weight of seized gold is 816 grams. Its estimated value is 63 lakh rupees.
The OC also said that the process of sending the arrested accused to jail is underway. Confiscated gold will be deposited in the Treasury Office.
