Nazrul Islam, Joypurhat
Joypurhat Graduate General Hospital, a private general hospital authority organized a press conference in protest of press conference based on false information at Joypurhat Press Club conference room on March 22.
In a written speech Delwar Jahan, AGM on behalf of Dr Ruhul Amin Sunnamat, CEO of the hospital said addressing the journalists that on March 16, 2024, news published in some reputed daily newspapers and social media came to our attention. In a press conference on March 16, one Zakir Hasan gave complete false information about his mother’s treatment and death. Today’s press conference has been organized to highlight the real facts.
Respected Zakir Hasan presented all the allegations of “patient’s death due to doctor’s negligence” “patient’s lack of consciousness” “Dr. Dewan Md. Aminul Islam’s death” in the press conference of Graduate General Hospital, a well-known health care provider. Now `I am presenting the real truth in front of you. The patient is operated on with leg rest only. The patient was not anesthetized. So whether knowledge is returned or not is not relevant. 75-year-old patient Maryam Begum had high blood pressure, lung and heart problems. On February 22, he slipped in the bathroom and broke his left leg. But last March 03 i.e. after 11 days she was brought to Graduate General Hospital for treatment. Considering the above diseases and age-related condition of the patient, concerned doctor Dr. Nazrul Islam Nahid, MBBS (Dhaka), BCS (Health), MS (Ortho-Surgery), FCPS, (FP), Consultant, Kalai Upazila Health Complex, patient counseling for at least 40 minutes with the relatives stating that the situation is dangerous. After informing about the patient’s condition, he advised the patient to seek better treatment in Bogura. Also, Dr. Dewan Aminul Islam, MBBS, BCS (Health), DA, Senior Consultant Anesthesiology (Retd.), Modern District Hospital, Joypurhat, in a different session highlighted the condition of the patient and discouraged the operation in the hospital. But someone along with Zakir Hasan, brother, sister-in-law, sister and relatives requested to be operated in this hospital. In this case, the relatives of the patient gave consent to the operation consent form. Explaining the “high risk status of the patient”, the patient’s relatives again consented to the “high risk bond” and requested for operation.
After the operation, by following the proper procedure in accordance with medical ethics, all the concerned surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, wardboys, cleaners and others sincerely provided health services till March 3, 4 and 5. On March 5, around 12:00 PM, the patient suddenly vomited. The patient’s condition gradually worsened. The doctors on duty verbally advised the patient’s relatives to take advanced treatment with ICU support at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogra or TMSS Medical College. Doctors want to provide oxygen and ambulance with our own doctor to take the patient with the patient. Although an ambulance arrived immediately, the patient’s son Zakir Hasan threw a tantrum and sent the ambulance back. Shaheed referred to Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogra or TMSS Medical College for treatment at 2 am. But the patient’s son Zakir Hasan misbehaved with the doctors instead of taking the patient. He kept saying, “The patient will die, we will not take him out. Stay here, I will see you. You want to get immunity by referring”. In this way, they deliberately delayed themselves until about 4.40 pm and put the patient at greater risk. On the contrary, they blamed Dr. Dewan Aminul Islam. Later they took the patient in an ambulance to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogra and the patient died while staying there.
Zakir Hasan repeatedly demanded money from the Graduate General Hospital authorities through his sister-in-law. He even called the concerned surgeon and demanded money. He said he has borne all the medical expenses of his mother-in-law. In such a situation, as the patient died, he repeatedly demanded money from the concerned surgeon over the phone and in person at the institution, fearing whether he would get the money or not. He held a press conference at Joypurhat Press Club on March 16 after 10 days of the patient’s death after failing to collect the demanded amount.
Finally the concerned Dr Dewan Aminul Islam told the press conference that Zakir Hasan, the patient’s son, presented all the allegations were completely false, fabricated, baseless and motivated. By presenting false information, he is engaged in defaming the reputation of Graduate General Hospital, which provides health services.
