National Disaster Preparedness Day celebrated in Kumarkhali

National Disaster Preparedness Day was celebrated under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kumarkhali, Md. Amirul Arafat, keeping in mind the theme of ‘Struggle in Disaster Preparedness, Build Smart Sonar Bangla’.

Sunday (March 10, 2024) Upazila Administration, Kumarkhali, Kushtia. Management: Organized by Directorate of Disaster Management, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, with the support of Fire Service and Civil Defense, rallies, discussion meetings, earthquake and fire drills have been held on the occasion of the day.

Md. Maksudul Karim, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Mahmudul Hasan, JN Secondary School Principal Md. Moksed ALi, Fire Service and Civil Defense Warehouse Inspector Md. Bakhtiar Uddin and others spoke on the occasion.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kumarkhali, Md. Amirul Arafat said in the president’s speech that Bangladesh is a very disaster-prone region due to its geographical location. And in any disaster, poverty-stricken countries suffer the most. Natural disasters cannot be controlled, but the loss of life and property can be greatly reduced by increasing public awareness and prior preparation. Government investment in disaster risk management, development in disaster forecasting management, construction of new multi-purpose shelters and dedicated efforts of volunteers in disaster preparedness and rescue activities have led to a significant reduction in the number of casualties in any disaster in Bangladesh in recent times, which can be realized by analyzing the statistical data.

On the day, several emergency drills were organized to deal with earthquake and fire incidents under the initiative of Fire Service and Civil Defense.
