Bonarpara-Paschimbati road of Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha has created numerous small and large potholes. The road has become impassable. However, various vehicles are running at risk. As a result accidents are happening constantly. Thousands of people traveling on this road have to suffer every day. There is no end to suffering, pain and irony on bad roads.

After being paved in 2008, most parts of the road have been filled with potholes due to lack of renovation for a long time. The road has become dangerous for pedestrians and vehicles as the carpeting has been lifted and collapsed on both sides. Due to this, thousands of people are suffering every day while traveling on this road. In this situation, the local residents have demanded the speedy repair of the road.

On the surface, it can be seen that the carpeting of the road has been lifted and the brick holes have come out. Big holes have been formed in some places. Due to the big potholes, the vehicles moving on the road are swaying left and right. There is a fear of the car overturning at any time. Besides, the carpeting has gone up in most places of the road.

Rafiqul Islam, a busy farmer who travels along the road, said that if it rains a little, water accumulates in the potholes of the road and the water becomes muddy. Then the condition of the road is so bad that it becomes difficult to walk. Rickshaws are available but charge high fares for bad roads.

Biplab Mia drives an autorickshaw on this road. He said, “There are numerous potholes on the road. Car hinges are often damaged by falling into potholes. It takes 35-40 minutes to go a 20-minute road due to broken roads.
Jewel Mia of West Bati village said, “The road has not been renovated even once in the last 15 years after it was paved. When it rains, water accumulates in the potholes of the road. Again during the dry season the dry road filled with potholes becomes dusty. It needs to be reformed quickly.’

In this regard, Saghata LGED engineer Nayan Roy admitted the poor condition of the road and said, “A proposal will be sent to the head office soon for the approval of the project for the renovation of the road. If the project is approved, the renovation work of the road can be started.
However, he could not specify when the renovation work can be started after completing the project approval, tender process.
