3 shops fined for selling watermelon at excessive price in Moulvibazar

Taking advantage of the extra heat, a class of unscrupulous traders are charging extra prices for various juicy fruits in the market.
On Sunday (April 16) from morning to noon, Moulvibazar district office of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection conducted surveillance and raids on seasonal fruit watermelon stalls and shops in different places of Moulvibazar city.
Under the leadership of Md. Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Director of Moulvibazar District Office of the Department of Consumer Protection and with the support of a team of Ansar and Village Defense Force, monitoring and awareness activities were conducted in various establishments of seasonal fruit watermelons in Court Bazar, Choumuhna, Paschimbazar of Moulvibazar upazila. Due to various irregularities including selling watermelons at excessive prices, not keeping purchase and sale vouchers, Abdus Shaheed fruit store located in Court Bazar was fined Tk 10,000, Mother’s Doa fruit store located in Chaumuhana Tk 3,000, Sultan Fruit store located in Paschim Bazar Tk 4,000 including a total of 3 watermelons. Its officials were fined 17,000 rupees under the Consumer Act. The assistant director said that the operation of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection is continuing in every upazila of Moulvibazar district to ensure the availability of daily essential products at a fair price and the availability of safe food.
