In Kanthalbari village of Companyganj upazila of Sylhet, a teenager has been accused of trying to rape a four-year-old child by tempting her with chips. The accused teenager’s name is Rabbi (16). He has been absconding ever since the incident.

On Sunday (April 2), the victim’s father filed the case at Companyganj police station as the plaintiff. Earlier, the incident took place at Kanthalbari village of Islampur West Union of the upazila at 6:30 pm on Thursday.

According to the statement, the child’s father is an auto-rickshaw driver. On the day of the incident, after Iftar, the child was sitting on his father’s auto-rickshaw which was on the road in front of their house. At that time, the accused juvenile took the child to a secluded house under construction, promising to give him chips. Later, when he tried to rape the child, the accused ran away when the locals came forward on his screams. After learning about this, the child victim was treated at One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station Hillol Roy said that we have received a complaint about the attempted rape of a child. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
