Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing at Patgram border

A Bangladeshi named Rabiul Islam (50) was killed by BSF firing at Patgram border of Lalmonirhat. Another young man named Shahidul (30) was injured in the shooting.
The incident took place near Main Pillar 864 of Shamsernagar border of Patgram upazila early on Sunday (02 April).
It is known that the deceased is the son of deceased Chenu Mia of Burimari Kalabagan area of Rabiul Upazila. Apart from this, the injured Shahidul is the son of Hedul Mia of Burimari Kalabagan area of upazila. He is currently undergoing treatment at a clinic in Rangpur.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station Omar Farooq confirmed the fact of the incident and said that the dead body of the person was recovered from the border and brought to Patgram Police Station. It will be sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
According to Teesta Battalion-2 (61 BGB) and local sources, on Sunday morning, 4 to 5 Bangladeshi smugglers tried to enter the Indian side illegally at a place called Medical Bridge, 10 yards from Main Pillar 864 of the border of Shamsernagar BOP of Patgram Upazila. At that time, the patrol team of 169 BSF Battalion Chungarkhata Camp of Mekhligonj Police Station in Cooch Behar district of India fired at them. Bangladeshi smuggler Rabiul Islam was shot dead. And Shahidul Islam is receiving treatment in Rangpur after being shot in the left leg.
61 BGB Teesta-2 battalion captain Lt. Colonel AM Mahbubul Alam Khan confirmed the fact of the incident and said that one person was killed by BSF firing when he approached the barbed wire fence of the border for the purpose of smuggling. Another person was injured. We are investigating the matter.
