A case has been filed under the Digital Security Act against Daily Jugantar’s special correspondent Mahbub Alam Lablu for publishing news and sharing that news on social media.

Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, the expelled leader of Jubo League and accused in the case of double murder in Chittagong’s CRB, filed this case in Chittagong Cyber Tribunal on Wednesday. In the case, the accused’s address is the Dhaka office of Dainik Jugantar.

Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said that the court accepted the case and ordered the cyber crime unit of the police to investigate.

According to the complaint in the case, a report published online by the Yugantar newspaper has addressed Babar as the ‘godfather of usurpers, tenders, extortionists and terrorists’. The plaintiff has been defamed. It was also alleged in the case that the news was defamed by sharing it from the accused’s Facebook ID.

It is said that on the night of March 13, the online version of Yugantar newspaper published the news under the title of ‘Dubai Bidaya Shah Alam Syndicate’s hands hostage’. In that news, information about Babar’s involvement with Shah Alam Syndicate and control of railway tenders was published. However, it is mentioned in the complaint that Babar’s statement was included in the news.

Babar mentioned in the complaint of the case that the newspaper claimed the plaintiff as a ‘notorious terrorist, arms supplier, usurper, extortionist, tenderer and godfather of terrorists’. However, there is no criminal case or complaint in any court of Bangladesh in the name of the plaintiff.
