Election Commission (EC) suddenly invited BNP for dialogue. Like-minded parties of BNP can also participate in it.
On Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal sent a letter inviting the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. However, no time and agenda of the meeting was fixed by the EC in the letter. The letter also said that the time can be discussed only if BNP agrees to sit in the dialogue.
However, BNP has rejected EC’s invitation for dialogue. Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Thursday night that he had received the invitation letter from the Election Commission, saying that there is no opportunity to go to the dialogue. His party does not feel the need to enter into this dialogue. Because BNP is agitating to establish a non-partisan caretaker government. EC has nothing to do about it. It is a matter of government. BNP will not participate in any talks other than the dialogue to establish a non-partisan caretaker government.
In response to a question, BNP Secretary General said that the Election Commission is subordinate to the government. They also don’t really have the mindset to do anything. People have given dialogue letters to show.
Earlier in the afternoon, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd.) about inviting BNP Secretary General. Ahsan Habib Khan told reporters, “Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with other leaders of his party and leaders of like-minded parties, if necessary, have been invited by Chief Election Commissioner DO for discussion and exchange of views on behalf of Bangladesh Election Commission.”
