The court ordered that former Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam and Sub-Inspector (SI) Sadhan Basak be denied bail in the case of three persons including a businessman being taken from their house and tortured at the police station in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon.

District and Sessions Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain gave this order on Sunday afternoon.

Inspector of District Court Police. Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter and said that after investigating a case filed on November 14, 2019 under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, the court issued an arrest warrant against OC Morshed Alam and SI Sadhan Basak on February 9. The two accused had obtained four weeks’ anticipatory bail from the High Court. On Sunday, they surrendered to the judge’s court and when they applied for bail, the court rejected it and ordered them to be sent to jail.

According to the documents of the case, Sonargaon businessman Anisur Rahman Alamgir, local Jubo League leader Zahidul Islam Swapan and a person named Babul were taken to the police station and tortured at midnight on October 7, 2018. Morshed Alam was the OC of Sonargaon police station at that time. Deputy Inspector Sadhan Basak was in charge of the second officer. In that incident, businessman Anisur Rahman Alamgir filed a case under the ‘Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act’ on November 14, 2019. After the investigation in that case, the District and Sessions Judge Court issued an arrest warrant against Morshed and Sadhan.

Plaintiff businessman Anisur Rahman Alamgir said that due to a land dispute, OC Morshed Alam and SI Sadhan Basak picked up three of us from their home and tied them hand, foot and blindfold to the police station. At that time, when I became unconscious, I was taken to the Upazila Health Complex and treated. Former OC and SI Zahidul Islam demanded money from Swapan. They also threatened to kill him by crossfire if he did not pay. In this incident, Zahidul Islam filed a case against these two police officers in the Swapan court. The accused threatened me in various ways not to testify. Later I filed another case as plaintiff myself.
