A rickshaw driver committed suicide by hanging his wife out of anger and shame as she left her three children and went to her father’s house due to a family dispute.
The incident took place in Barapara area of Sunamganj municipality around 5 pm on Sunday (February 19).
Akhter Hossain (32) who committed suicide is the son of Noor Hossain of that area.
It is known that Akhter Hossain was living in a tin shed house of Barapara area Bassina Abul Bashar with his wife and children. Husband Akhtar Hossain used to quarrel with his wife Amena Begum about various family matters. After quarreling like this for a few days, Amena Begum left her children and went to her father’s house in Tekerghat area of Tahirpur upazila. Since then Akter Hossain tried hard to bring back his wife, but Amena Begum did not come.
After his wife left, Akter’s three children lived with grandfather Noor Hossain in Barapara area.
Eyewitnesses said that Akhtar returned home after noon on Sunday by driving a rickshaw like other days. In the afternoon his door was barred from the inside. In the evening, when the neighbors did not hear any response from Akhtar’s house, they entered the house by breaking the door and found Akhter’s body hanging from the bamboo beam of the house. After receiving the information, the police came to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the hospital.
Akter Hossain’s father said – My son used to live in a rented house with his wife and children. There was a family of poverty. He often quarreled with his wife. It has been 23 days since the wife went to her father’s house leaving behind three small children. My son tried a lot to bring back his wife, but the grandmother did not come. He talked to his wife two days ago. She cried that she would die if she didn’t come back. My son really committed suicide today.
Confirming the truth of this incident, Sadar police station SI Sabbir Ahmed said, “We have come to the spot.” I sent the dead body to the morgue. It is initially believed to be a suicide.
