District Administration, Directorate of Drug Administration and Kotwali Thana Police conducted a joint operation in Chittagong’s largest drug market Hazari Gali. Meanwhile, wasted insulin worth Tk 3 lakh was seized from a shop named Pacific Traders located in Chabila Complex of Hazari line. Although there are instructions on each insulin to store insulin at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, but the insulins were left at room temperature, as a result of which their effectiveness was lost long ago. Basically traders sell the insulins at wholesale prices without storing them at the right temperature, hoping for higher profits. At that time, the accused Pallab Biswas, the owner of the shop, was fined 20 thousand taka. After that raids were conducted at Nirupama Drug House and Rajeev Drug House on the same charges. Nast insulin worth approximately Tk 6 lakh was seized from two shops in the raid. Also, Rajeev Drug House has a wide range of tetanus vaccines available. Two shop owners were fined Tk 30,000 and Tk 60,000 respectively for these allegations. Executive Magistrate Prateek Dutta, who conducted the operation, said, “Insulin worth about Tk 9 lakh was seized from 3 shops and a fine of Tk 80,000 was imposed for not storing it at the right temperature. There were complaints for a long time that the insulin of certain pharmacies did not work. In fact, within “Most of the insulins come from abroad in luggage. They are unapproved. Temperature control is not possible when imported, so they expire immediately.” Assistant Commissioner of Medicines Administration Department Sultanul Arefin and Deputy Inspector of Kotwali Police Station Md. Mehdi Hasan provided full cooperation in the operation.
