23 Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) Constituency as independent candidate Zakir Hossain Sarkar finally won the nomination battle. His nomination paper has been validated by the EC. As Zakir Hossain’s nomination was validated, there was cheering among the activists and supporters. On this news, many people have distributed sweets in their respective areas.

On Tuesday (December 12), the Bangladesh Election Commission validated his candidacy. Earlier Rangpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Zakir Hossain had declared the government’s candidature illegal. Later, when he appealed to the Election Commission, his nomination paper was declared valid on Tuesday.

Zakir Hossain Sarkar served as general secretary of Mithapukur Awami League for 37 years. Also, he was elected chairman of Mithapukur Upazila Parishad twice. Zakir Hossain government wanted party nomination boat of Awami League in twelfth parliamentary election. He also resigned from the post of Chairman of Upazila Parishad. But Zakir was deprived of the boat due to party decision. Later, his candidature was canceled if he submitted his nomination as an independent candidate. Zakir later appealed to the EC and got his candidature back.

Meanwhile, as the nomination papers of Zakir Hossain government as an independent candidate are valid, there is joy among his supporters. Misti has been distributed among the general public at various places. The election mood has begun. Through fair elections, there will be intense competition in Mithapukur-5 seat.

Rabiul Islam, a supporter of the Zakir Hossain government, said that since the nomination papers are valid, there is no obstacle for us to be in the polling field. The people of Mithapukur will elect Zakir Hossain Sarkar as MP by a wide margin.

Another supporter, Aminur Islam, said that a vicious circle was formed to keep the polling away. They always fear the popularity of Zakir Hussain. If there is a fair and peaceful election, this year the polling festival will be held in Mithapukur.

Zakir Hossain Sarkar expressed his gratitude to Almighty God for getting back his candidature and said, I am still in Dhaka. Today, the Appellate Division of the Election Commission declared my nomination paper valid. People from all walks of life in Mithapukur are on my side. If the elections are fair and peaceful, I will win with huge votes.
