5 people including BNP leader Gouch were brought to Habiganj jail

BNP central cooperative affairs secretary and joint convener of Habiganj district BNP, former mayor GK Gauch, district youth 1st joint convener Rubel Ahmed Chowdhury, BNP leader advocate Kamal Uddin Salim and 5 activists have been brought to Habiganj district jail.

He was brought from Dhaka Central Jail to Habiganj Jail on Monday (September 4) afternoon. On their arrival, hundreds of leaders and activists gathered in front of the prison gate and congratulated them with applause.

Meanwhile, they will be brought to Habiganj Court from the district jail at 10 am on Tuesday. According to reliable sources, the Sadar police station will make arrests in various cases including the cases filed by them. Security has been strengthened at important points including the courthouse on behalf of the police.

On the night of August 29, the Intelligence Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them along with GK Gauch. The next day on August 30, the police produced him in court. DB SI Aftabul Islam applied to remand Gauch and Rubel, Kamal Uddin Salim for 10 days for proper investigation of a case. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid granted their two-day remand.

After two days of remand on September 2, the police produced him in court. After that, an application was made to remand them for another 10 days for investigating the case. On the other hand, when the lawyers applied for bail seeking cancellation of the remand, the judge granted their remand after the hearing of both parties.

The investigating officer told the court that GK Gouch conspired and planned to kill the then Habiganj-3 Constituency Member of Parliament Advocate Abu Zahir and the then Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit. A case was filed against him in Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station on August 28, 2015 in this incident. After the incident, GK Gauch was hiding in Dhaka and its surrounding areas. Apart from this, Rubel Chowdhury and Kamal Uddin Salim were arrested from Dhaka on August 28.

BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police during a march organized by BNP in Habiganj district on August 19. In this incident, on August 21, the police filed two separate cases against about 700 leaders and activists, making GK Gauch the main accused. In that case, 183 BNP leaders and workers of Habiganj along with GK Gauch applied for bail in the High Court on August 29. After the hearing in the afternoon, the double bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice MD Aminul Islam granted them six weeks anticipatory bail.
