Tea worker sentenced to life imprisonment for killing usury trader

The learned Additional Sessions Judge of Habiganj 2nd Court ordered a tea worker to be sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of 50 thousand rupees for the death of a usury merchant by strangulation. Yesterday, Monday (August 21) afternoon, he announced this verdict.

According to the brief details of the case, Sadhan Sawtal alias Bisnu Sawtal (45), a worker of Jagdishpur tea garden in Madhavpur upazila, took Tk 1300 on interest from Yunuch Ali (55), a businessman of neighboring Rasul village. 2600 rupees in three years. Sadhan Sawtal paid 2300 rupees. On October 1, 2006, Yunus Ali went to the house of the accused after not paying the remaining 300 taka. Both of them had an argument about the 300 rupees owed.

At one point, Sadhan Sawtal killed businessman Yunus Ali by strangulation. After that, the accused buried the body under the ground of his house.
In this regard, Yunuch’s younger brother Manu Mia filed a case against Sadhan at Madhavpur police station. After receiving a total of 7 witnesses, the judge announced the above verdict. The accused was absconding when the verdict was pronounced. Additional PP Habibur Rahman handled the case for the state.
