After 21 years in Sylhet, two have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case. Today Tuesday (August 8) at noon Sylhet speedy trial tribunal judge. Shahadat Hossain Pramanik announced this verdict.

At the same time, each of them has been sentenced to a fine of 20,000 taka, in default of payment, another six months imprisonment without labor.

Those sentenced to life imprisonment are – Ana Mia and Dara Mia, sons of Majid Mia of Paschim Bhatpara of Majortila Islampur of Sylhet Sadar Upazila.

Abdul Khaliknam, the other accused in this case, was acquitted as the crime was not proved against him.

The accused were present in court when the verdict was announced.

According to court sources, on the evening of September 3, 2001, Afsar Ahmad and his acquaintance Abdul Quddus Babul of Khadimpara area of Sylhet Sadar were standing and talking. At that time, the accused attacked and fired. The seriously injured people were taken to the hospital. Abdul Quddus Babul died while undergoing treatment. Afzal Kabir, son of Sona Mia, resident of Majortila Islampur Mukirpara, Sylhet Nagar, brother of UP member Afsar Ahmad who was injured in the shooting filed a murder case (No-14 (9) 2001) at Kotwali police station on September 5, 2001.
After a long trial, the court on Tuesday sentenced the two accused, Anna Mia and Dara Mia, to life imprisonment.
