On the eleventh working day, the court accepted the testimony of two people in the rape case filed against the joint secretary general of the defunct committee of Hefazat Islam Mamunul Haque.

Narayanganj District Women and Children Torture Suppression Tribunal Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamal’s court took testimony from 12 noon to 1:30 on Tuesday.

The witnesses are Zakir Hossain, public relations officer of Sonargaon Royal Resort and Noor Nabi Johnny, journalist of Sonargaon.

Advocate AKM Omar Farooq Nayan, Mamunul Haque’s lawyer, said that the case filed by Jannat Ara Jharna in Sonargaon police station against Royal Resort is false. Jharna filed a false case against Mamunul Haque under pressure from the administration. It has been proved in the testimony given by the plaintiff’s son Abdur Rahman on June 6.

Abdur Rahman said, Dhaka Far East International Hotel called them for 18-20 days; Why would the police call them? And when Abdur Rahman testified that testimony went in favor of Mamunul Haque – it means that he gave true testimony. Mamunul Haque and Jharna’s marriage was not separated even in such a storm. They are legal husband and wife.

He also said that on the eleventh day, 2 witnesses gave. The evidence given by them proved Mamunul Haq innocent. Out of 40 witnesses in this case, 24 have given evidence so far.

Prosecution lawyer (PP) Rakibuddin Ahmed (Raqib) Chowdhury said that 24 witnesses have been given so far, including officials and employees of the Royal Resort, local journalists, police, people, the plaintiff in the case, Jannat Ara Jharna and today’s two witnesses. All of them testified that Mamunul Haque raped Jharna with the lure of marriage. Hope the plaintiff gets justice. The court fixed September 10 for the next witness.

It is to be noted that on April 3, 2021, the locals blocked Mamunul Haque along with his alleged wife Jannat Ara Jharna in room number 501 at Royal Resort in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. Hefajat Islam activists attacked the resort and kidnapped Mamunul and his alleged wife when the police went and interrogated them. 15 days after that incident, Mamunul Haque was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur by Dhaka Metropolitan Tejgaon Division Police. After that, 27 days after the Royal Resort incident, on April 30, Jannat Ara Jharna appeared at Sonargaon police station and filed a case against Mamunul Haque on the charge of rape by inducing marriage.

The police filed a charge sheet in the court on September 10 of that year. On November 3 of the same year, the Women and Child Torture Tribunal filed a complaint against Mamunul Haque in a rape case. Then on November 24 of the same year, the alleged second wife Jannat Ara Jharna testified in the court in the presence of Mamunul Haque.
