Candidates have started campaigning before the allotment of symbols in Sylhet City Corporation (June 2). Ignoring Election Commission (EC) code of conduct restrictions. Even the billboards, banners, festoons placed in the area by the potential candidates before the announcement of the schedule were not removed. Meanwhile, extensive miking is being done by the returning officer to remove these. However, EC is not getting any response from any candidate. However, if these billboards and propaganda materials are not removed, there is a system of punishment including fines in the election rules.
Meanwhile, Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Regional Election Officer and City Election Returning Officer Faisal Quader said that candidates have been asked to remove banners, festoons and billboards on their own initiative on the day of selection of nomination papers. At the time of collection of nomination papers, the candidates have given written undertaking that they will withdraw them on their own initiative. We are alerting candidates by miking. Action will be taken against those who still do not move.
Candidates for the posts of mayor and councilors have been campaigning in violation of the election code of conduct even before the Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) election schedule was announced. Nobody is listening to Election Commission (EC) here. He said, if the candidates do not stop campaigning and remove billboards and other campaign materials, then I will be forced to punish them.
Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Nazrul Islam Babul has accused Awami League mayoral candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury of violating election code of conduct. Three days have passed since the complaint, but no action has been taken by the Election Commission. The symbols will be distributed on June 2, since then there are rules for starting the election campaign, but the candidates are continuing to campaign in Birdarp everywhere in the city. Competition is going on without regard to the law. And it is alleged that the Election Commission is sitting silently. CSIC election will be held on June 21 in EVMs.
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury of Awami League, Nazrul Islam Babul of Jatiya Party, Hafiz Maulana Mahmudul Hasan of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Zahirul Alam of Zaker Party, independent Mohammad Abdul Hanif Kutu and Chalah Uddin Rimon are contesting for the post of mayor in this city.
