Rupganj Highway Eviction Operation

An eviction operation has been conducted on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Rupganj, Narayanganj at the initiative of the administration. After this operation, the traffic jam has been cleared in the Bhulta-Golakandail area of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway and the Golakandail-Kanchan area of the Madanpur-Gazipur Highway. The eviction operation was conducted by the Rupganj Upazila administration on Thursday (March 6) afternoon. Present at the time were – Rupganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tariqul Alam, Purbachal Region Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ubaidul Rahman Shahel, Narayanganj District Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam, Rupganj Police Station OC (Investigation) Salahuddin and a large number of law enforcement officers. Rupganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tariqul Alam said that for a long time, small traders had been occupying two-thirds of the road in Bhulta and Golakandail areas of Rupganj and setting up floating shops on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and doing business. Even before this, many raids were carried out on these sidewalks and highways, but an extortionist gang helped them set up shops again in exchange for lakhs of taka. If any shop is set up again on the road, legal action will be taken, including arrest. The extortionist gang used to set up shops at night and collect 200 taka every day. They used to collect 3 lakh taka daily from shops set up on the sidewalks and highways in Bhulta and Golakandail areas of Rupganj. Eyewitnesses said that there was constant traffic jam on the sidewalks and highways due to the floating shops. Moreover, people could not even walk on the sidewalks. The highway was cleared of traffic jams on Thursday after the illegal establishments were evicted. Along with this, the environment of Bhulta-Gauchia area has become beautiful. Narayanganj District Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam said that this operation has been carried out to clear the highway traffic jam. This operation will continue.
