The issue of leasing the Gorjania Bazar in Ramu was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Naikhongchari Upazila Law and Order Committee in Bandarban. The highest lease call in the country has been for Garjania Bazaar at 250 million taka. However, the financial income of this market depends on the Naikhongchari border. This information was given by Naikhongchari Upazila Executive Officer Mazharul Islam Chowdhury. At the monthly meeting held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Monday (March 10) morning, the UNO said, “If smuggling through the Naikhongchari border is stopped, there will not be so much income from the Garjania market. The BGB will have to perform its duties more strictly at the border. Everyone will have to work to prevent smuggling,” the UNO added. He also called on those concerned to work to stop illegal sand mining and hill cutting. At the meeting, Naikhongchari 11 BGB Assistant Director (AD) Al Amin said, “BGB is working to prevent smuggling across the border.” The BGB will carry out its duties more strictly in the future. Action will be taken only after receiving specific complaints. During this time, the speakers expressed concern over the recent increase in robberies and smuggling activities in Naikhongchari Upazila. Among others who spoke at the meeting were: Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Yusuf, Naikhongchari Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee President journalist Mainuddin Khaled, Press Club Convener Abdul Hamid, Member Secretary Jahangir Alam Kajal, etc. After the monthly law and order committee meeting, the monthly general meeting of the upazila and the preparatory meeting on the occasion of Independence Day were held under the chairmanship of the UNO.
