Former US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that French President Emmanuel Macron met with Xi Jinping in China and “kissed his ass”.

The former president sat down with Fox News anchor Talker Carlson for his first mainstream media appearance since the impeachment in New York.

In an interview, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said the United States has lost influence in the world since he left office.

He tells Carlson, “You’ve got this crazy world, everything is falling apart and the United States has absolutely no headache.”

“My friend Macron is involved with China, kissing his ass,” Trump said. Well, in China! I said, ‘France is going to China now’.

Macron caused a storm last week after a state visit to China where he warned Europeans should not tie themselves to US foreign policy.

In comments to reporters, Macron said European countries should not get caught up in the tense standoff between Beijing and Washington over the fate of Taiwan.

China has pledged to regain control of Taiwan, while the US government has pledged to help Taiwan defend itself.

Macro, who discussed Taiwan with Xi on Friday, warned Europe against “getting caught up in a crisis that is not ours, which prevents it from building its strategic autonomy.”
