BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that all the democratic and fundamental rights of the people have been damaged by the repression of the current government. Due to lack of rule of law, no one’s life is safe at home or outside. Innocent people are being prosecuted, arrested, jailed and harassed despite not being involved in any crime.

He said these things in a statement on Friday. He made this statement expressing deep concern and protesting the incident of BNP President Syed Saeed Ahmed and other leaders of Ashtagram Upazila of Kishoreganj district being denied bail and sent to jail.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, ‘In order to destroy the leadership of the BNP protesting against misrule by taking the people with them, the illegal midnight government has denied bail to the leaders and activists of the BNP and its organs and affiliated organizations in false cases and sent them to jail and continued to arrest them.’

The BNP Secretary General said that government oppression and persecution has been continued in a fascist style to stop the movement of the opposition party and to instill fear in the minds of the opposition leaders and workers. However, the current anti-people government should remember that, as in the past, no anti-dictatorship activists were able to suppress the movement and struggle by disappearing, murdering, arresting and torturing them, the current ruling group will also not be able to stop the democracy seekers. The leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates and affiliated organizations will be more active in the struggle against the government along with the people.

He demanded immediate withdrawal of the ‘false cases’ filed against the said leaders and their unconditional release.
