Between January and March, 56 journalists were subjected to torture, harassment, lawsuits, threats and obstacles in performing their professional duties. This information was provided by human rights organization Law and Arbitration Center (ASAC).

ASK gave this information in the three-month human rights violation report published on Friday. This report on human rights violations is based on information gathered from ten national dailies, online news media and ASK’s ‘own sources’.

In particular, the fact that the journalist of Prothom Alo, Shamsuzzaman, was picked up by the CID on Wednesday morning and detained throughout the day has been denied by the concerned parties.

A case has been filed against the editor of Prothom Alo, Motiur Rahman, under the much-discussed Digital Security Act. Highlighting that point, Ask says, such cases will curtail the freedom of media and create fear and insecurity in the performance of professional duties of journalists.
