Special precautions in Sylhet jail to prevent ‘militant activities’
Militants are trying to control the outside world while sitting in prison. Nowadays they are leaning towards electronic technology to exchange various information. Therefore, special precautions have been taken for 91 hanged convicts including militants in Sylhet jail.
A red alert has been issued across the country after two militants were abducted by pepper spray in the eyes of the police from the court in Dhaka. Extra precautions have also been taken in prisons.
Prison authorities in Sylhet are also on special alert. Surveillance has also been strengthened. Along with that, there has been a major change in the performance of prison guards. Extra care has also been taken to ensure that the inmates cannot hold any secret meetings or counselling.
The Jail Department has increased surveillance on the living, eating and movement of militants more than ever before. Besides, on the orders of the authorities, the convicts including the militants in the Sylhet Central Jail are being kept in chains (dandaberi).

These technologies are very portable and can be taken inside the prison without the eyes of the authorities. As a result, militants are using modern and miniature technology devices including memory cards, pen drives, USB ports. These militants have continued to spread religious madness in various ways. As a result, stricter policies are being adopted to monitor the food provided to inmates in prisons.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Sylhet Central Jail Muhammad Manjur Hossain told the media that currently there are 2,650 prisoners in the jail. Among them, 91 convicts, including militants, have been kept in the condemned cells of this new prison. 3 militants have already been transferred from this jail to attend cases in different districts. However, militants are brought from one prison to another under greater security. After the incident in Dhaka, travel to other places has been restricted to produce militants.
He said that there are restrictions on the transportation of accused in sensitive cases. Moreover, the inspection activities are being strictly monitored in all matters including food supply. The security of the prison has also increased the number of prison guards.
