Cultivate book-reading mindset: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, ‘To strive for knowledge is much better than to strive for wealth (property). This should be remembered by everyone.

He said this while remembering Syed Mujtaba Ali as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of ‘Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall’ of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Shabi) at around 12 noon on Friday.

The minister also said, “Everyone including those who will be in this hall (Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall) should remember another thing. Mujtaba Ali Sahib said that no one becomes bankrupt by buying books.” So you develop the mindset of buying books and reading books. Then we will fulfill a responsibility towards Syed Mujtaba Ali.

AK Abdul Momen said about the education rate in Sylhet region, ‘Sylhet is the city of intellectuals. But unfortunately we are far behind in recent education. The deterioration of this Sylhet is more than the education of the whole country. Due to which our maternal mortality rate is high here, our infant mortality rate is also high.

Before the inauguration, the minister arrived at the university at around 10:30 am and paid tribute to Bangabandhu’s portrait in the main square by placing a wreath. Later, the minister cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall at around 11 am.

The event was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed and Treasurer Prof. Dr. was present as a special guest. Syed Ruhul Amin is the nephew of Anwarul Islam and Syed Mujtaba Ali.

Also present was the president of the teacher’s association. Akhtarul Islam, Director of Student Advice and Guidance Professor Amina Parveen, Proctor Associate Professor Ishrat Ibn Ismail. Meanwhile, Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall’s Provost Professor Dr. welcomed the event. Mohammad Abu Said Arefin Khan.
