Discussion of the administration to return the tea workers to work in Kamalganj

Kamalganj upazila administration held an exchange meeting with tea workers leaders at Dalei Valley Club on Wednesday (August 24) afternoon to return the agitating tea workers to work demanding wage increase.
Chairman of Kamalganj Upazila Parishad Professor Md. Rafiqur Rahman, Kamalganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO). Sifat Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Kamalganj Police Station, Abdur Razzak, Chairman of Madhavpur Union Parishad. Managers and assistant managers of various tea gardens were present along with Asid Ali. On behalf of the tea workers, various garden panchayat leaders including Patrakhola tea garden panchayat president UP member Shipan Chakraborty, Madanmohanpur tea garden panchayat president Uma Sankar Goala, Srigobindpur tea garden panchayat president Milan Naik were present. Tea workers were invited to join the work in the meeting, but their demand was only one, wage increase. They will not join the work without the announcement of the Prime Minister.
UP Member Shipan Chakraborty, President of Patrakhola Tea Garden Panchayat Committee, said that the movement of tea workers will continue if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does not directly announce the increase in the wages of tea workers.
Kamalganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Sifat Uddin said that considering the interests of the tea industry, workers have been asked to join the work. But the tea workers want to hear an announcement from the Prime Minister on wages. Their matter will be reported to the Prime Minister’s Office.
It should be noted that tea workers across the country have been on strike for two hours every day since August 9 and have been on an indefinite strike since August 13 to demand an increase in daily wages from Tk 120 to Tk 300 in line with the current market price.
