State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Farooq visited the Teesta erosion affected area in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha by helicopter. After that, he promised to prevent erosion on the phone.

According to local sources, on Sunday (May 21) morning, State Minister Zahid Farooq of the Water Resources Ministry was supposed to visit the Teesta eroding area by landing a helicopter at Kashim Bazar, Haripur Union of Sundarganj Upazila.

But due to unavoidable reasons, instead of landing at Kashimbazar, he visited the area affected by Teesta erosion by helicopter.

Meanwhile, he spoke to several people from the helicopter. Later he visited Kurigram district.

Kashimbazar Nazimabad BL High School head teacher Rafiqul Islam Ranju said that the state minister spoke to him on the phone. He requested to stop river erosion permanently to protect 4 institutions including Kashimbazar. The State Minister has promised to prevent erosion.

Haripur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mojaharul Islam said, our union is surrounded by Teesta river. Hundreds of families and thousands of acres of cropland are affected by erosion every year. Geo bags and geo tubes are currently being thrown in Haripur Union’s current market area to prevent erosion. However, if the erosion cannot be prevented permanently, 4 institutions including Kasimbazar may be lost under the river this season.

Gaibandha Water Development Board’s Civil Engineer Hafizul Haque said that due to long-term erosion, Kasimbazar area of Haripur Union has suffered a lot. Geo tubes and Geo bags are being dropped in the affected areas.

Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari, Member of Parliament of Sundarganj Constituency, said that protection of Haripur’s Kasimbabazar, High School Primary School, Girls’ School, Madrasa has become very important from Tista’s coral grass. For this, permanent erosion prevention measures should be taken.
