Sylhet’s ‘Kalairag-Nangjuri’ stone import route has huge revenue potential

With the announcement of the ‘Kalairag-Nangjuri’ stone import route in Sylhet, there is a huge revenue potential for the government.

Extension of Bholaganj Land Customs Station for import of stones (stone boulders, boulder stones, limestone) from sub pillar (11S-12S) area of Main Pillar 1151 of Kalairag Mauza, Upazila Companyganj, bordering Sylhet to East Khasi Hills, Barapunji, Nonjuri area of Meghalaya State, India. The National Board of Revenue has already issued a notification announcing the import route and published the gazette.

According to the responsible source of the National Board of Revenue, in view of the application of Shahjalal Export Import Co. Ltd., the National Board of Revenue has already issued a notification and published the gazette announcing the expanded stone import route ‘Kalairag-Nangjuri’ of Bholaganj Land Customs Station.

Talking to the managing director of Shahjalal Export Import Company Ltd., Asaduzzaman, it is known that the necessary infrastructure construction work is almost at the final stage with the overall cooperation of their company. He is hopeful that the stone import process will start soon through the announced route.

Faizur Rahman of Uor Ranikhai Union of Companyganj Upazila of Sylhet said that if the stone import is started through the above route, the increasing demand of stone, boulder stone and limestone in the construction industry cement factories of the country will be met to a great extent, and there will be massive employment of unemployed people in this area.

Deputy Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate Sylhet Md. Solaiman Hossain told CNBangladesh, “After the introduction of stone, boulder stone, limestone import program on ‘Kalairag-Nangjuri’ route, the government is close to creating employment for thousands of unemployed workers in the border area and nearby townships. Fees will generate billions of rupees in revenue annually, which is expected to play a major role in the national economy at some point.
