A person named Jahangir (35) was killed in a clash between two groups in Kushiartala village of Makrampur union in Baniachang of Habiganj. Another death was also reported. At least 50 people, including a woman, were injured.

The incident took place in the Kushiartala village of Makrampur union of the upazila on Saturday evening (April 8). Deceased Jahangir Alam is the son of Dhalai Mia of that village. Police arrested 10 people from both sides.

According to local and police sources, former member Sheesh Ali and former member Ajman Mia of Kushiara village of Ward No. 6 of Makrampur Union had been in dispute for a long time over various accounts including the village mosque. The matter was arbitrated several times but not resolved. There were several terrible clashes with this. But even then their dominance does not stop.

The date of arbitration was again on Saturday afternoon. At that time, when one party got into an argument with the other party, both parties clashed with indigenous weapons. Jahangir Mia (25), son of deceased Dhalai Mia, nephew of Sheesh Ali member, was killed on the spot and at least 50 others were injured in the hour-long clash. On receiving the information, police fired tearshells and rubber bullets to calm the situation. Meanwhile, tension arose on both sides when he came to Sadar Hospital for treatment. Sadar and DB police arrested 10 rioters from the hospital after receiving the information.

Meanwhile, his grandson Hafez Zakir Hossain said that Jahangir’s uncle Ishaq Mia (60), son of deceased Dewan Ali, died on the way to Dhaka in a state of shock. When the news of the death of two people spread, the village became destitute.

Baniachong Police Station OC Ajay Dev said that he had not received the news of Ishaq Miar’s death. But his condition is alarming. The situation is currently calm and police are deployed.
