Thirteen brick kiln workers including the driver were injured when a pickup van fell into a ditch on the Comilla-Sylhet highway in Kasba, Brahmanbaria. The accident happened on Monday (April 3) at Khadera Namaksthan of the upazila.

The injured were rescued and treated at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.

The injured are- Karam Ali (45) of Sadar Upazila of the district, Mamun (22), Liton (40), Jamal (40), Nuruddin (60), Kamal (38), Anwar Hossain (35), Sabbir (25), of Sarail Upazila. Aziz Bhuiya (59) of Nasirnagar, Delwar (19) of Madhavpur, Rubel (35), Russell (20), Yunus (38) and driver Habibullah (55).

The police and the injured said that in the morning 30 workers of Chayanika Brick Field of Comilla’s Muradnagar Upazila were returning to their homes in Brahmanbaria and Habiganj’s Madhavpur in two pickups. On the way, a pickup van lost control and fell into a ditch while overtaking another pickup van at Khadera in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. At that time, 13 workers including the driver were injured. Later the locals rescued them and sent them to Brahmanbaria General Hospital in an injured condition.

Akul Chandra Biswas, officer-in-charge of Khantihata Highway Police Station, said that no one was killed in the incident. The injured have been rescued and treated. The pickup van is in police custody.
