24 women wearing shakha-sindur and maduli along with two youths from Madhavpur were detained in Golapganj

Anyone who sees 24 women wearing shakha-sindur and maduli would assume that they are Sanatan religious devotees. There is no way to understand that they are Muslims. However, in the end, it was not possible to avoid the eyes of the police with such a dress.

The police arrested 27 active members of an inter-district gang of thieves from the same temple in Sylhet’s Golapganj upazila along with 24 women. All 24 of the arrested are residents of Dharmandal village under Nasirnagar police station in Brahmanbaria district.

The arrested are Narjin Begum (30), Nazma Begum (32), Rima Akhtar (28), Mahima Akhtar (35), Poppi Begum (30), Ayesha Begum (35), Sumi Begum (30), Bilkis Begum (28) of Brahmanbaria. , Sufia Begum (22), Shahida Begum (28), Lutfa Begum (25), Najma Begum (30), Roksana Begum (25), Salma Begum (35), Tashlima Begum (35), Rozina Begum (30), Lovely Akhter (35), Achma Begum (38), Parveen Begum (30), Tashlima Akhter (35), Anu Akhter (30), Amena Begum (30), Fulchan Bibi (28), Achma Begum (25), Suhel of Madhavpur Upazila. Mia, Shahin Alam (20) and Chaidul Islam of Fenchuganj Upazila of Sylhet.

The police of Golapganj Model Police Station gave this information in a press briefing on Monday (April 3). Earlier on Sunday (02 April) the police detained them from the fair organized on the occasion of the annual kirtan held at the traditional Sri Chaitanya Dev Mahaprabhu temple at Misrapara, Dhaka South Union, Golapganj, Sylhet.

In a press briefing, Additional Superintendent of Police of Osmaninagar Circle (Additional charge of Golapganj Circle) Ashrafuzzaman said that Golapganj police arrested 27 active members of an organized gang of thieves from the annual kirtan fair held at Sri Sri Chaitanya Dev Mahaprabhu temple located in Misrapara village of Dhaka South Union under Golapganj police station. At that time, gold ornaments like jewellery, cash and hand shells used by Hindu women were recovered from them.

Among the artifacts recovered are 9 gold-like chains, one pair of gold-like bangles, 4 pairs of gold-like bangles, 14 pairs of gold-like earrings, eight silver-like chains, eight silver-like nupurs, six hand shells used by Hindu women, seven mobile sets and a Noah microbus.

It was informed in the press briefing that the interrogation of the arrested persons revealed that all 24 of them are residents of Dharmandal village under Nasirnagar police station in Brahmanbaria district and are active members of an inter-district gang of thieves. In connivance with each other, they came to steal the Puny Mela held in the temple of Sri Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and by cunningly formed a crowd and stole gold chains, earrings, bangles, silver chains, nupur and cash from the devotees. The police of Golapganj police station, engaged in maintaining law and order at the fair, arrested 24 women and three men involved in the crime of theft along with evidence.

Ashrafuzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police of Osmaninagar Circle (additional responsibility of Golapganj Circle) said that legal action against the arrested persons is in process.
