Clash between BGB and smugglers in Netrakona, 1 killed in firing

BGB was attacked by smugglers at Baromari border in Durgapur of Netrokona. One BGB member was injured in the attack. A person named Aminul Islam (30) died when the BGB members fired in self-defense during the attack.
The incident took place in Lakshmipur village on the border on Friday (March 31) night. The deceased is the son of Abdul Barek, a resident of Aminul Lakshmipur village.
In this incident, it was reported that Zayedul Islam (38), son of Jalal Uddin of the same village, was shot dead.
Eyewitnesses and family members of the deceased said that the patrol team of BGB raided a house in Lakshmipur village at night on the secret information of betel nut smuggling. At that time, local smugglers got together and engaged with the BGB. Later, BGB members fired in self-defence, killing one.
Aminul’s mother Kulsuma Khatun said, “My son works as a daily labourer.” The betel nut traders of that area asked him to carry a bag of betel nuts to the border. He was then shot dead by the BGB.
In this regard, 31 BGB Lt. Colonel Md. Arifur Rahman said that the BGB jawans strengthened patrolling on the border after receiving information about the smuggling of stolen goods at the border at night. When the smugglers attacked the jawans, one jawan was seriously injured. Later BGB fired two rounds in self defence.
