The death toll in the Shibchar bus accident in Madaripur has risen to 20. The accident took place in Qutubpur area of the upazila on Sunday morning.

According to local sources, a bus of Imad Paribahan, which left Khulna in the morning, lost control and fell into the ditch before the padma setu of Shibchar in Madaripur at Qutubpur area of the expressway. Meanwhile, the bus got twisted.

Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Highway Police (OC) Abu Naeem Md. Mofazzel Haque said that 20 people have been killed in the accident so far. The bodies of 14 passengers were recovered from the spot. Later four people died while undergoing treatment at Shivchar Upazila Health Complex. Besides, two others died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
