Awami League General Secretary Obaidul said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is out of jail for humanitarian reasons. He said, Khaleda Zia’s sentence has not ended. He is out of jail on humanitarian grounds. However, the court will decide whether he can participate in politics and elections.

The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges said these things at the Golden Jubilee and Alumni Association’s first reunion function of Dhaka University (DU) Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall on Friday (March 10) morning.

The minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina works to improve people’s destiny. And BNP looted the country’s money. Because of this people rejected them.

Stating that Awami League has no interference in Daksur’s regular elections, the minister said that DU is an autonomous institution. So they are also responsible for Daksu election. Awami League has no interference here. Not being able to hold regular elections is a failure of the university.

The Awami League general secretary said that the Alumni Association is not a political issue and said that he does not want to do politics everywhere. Some places have to be kept out of politics. Alumni should be apolitical in character. These programs should be kept above politics. Former resident students of the hall will attend these events. Everyone will chat, eat together, reminisce about the old days.

Alumni Association President Professor Dr. Md. Nizamul Haque Bhuiya presided over the event – Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, former chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Abdul Mannan, Member of Parliament Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University. Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Prof. Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, President of Samilit Sansikkar Jota Golam Kudduch and others.

Cultural programs were performed after the inauguration.
