BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his wife Rahat Ara Begum are going to Singapore for treatment. He will leave Dhaka on a flight at 10 pm on Thursday.

According to a BNP source, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir became physically ill while in prison. He did not have a regular checkup. All in all, he is going to Singapore to get his physical checkup done.

When asked to know, Mirza Fakhrul told the media that I have been experiencing mild chest pain for a few days. Moreover, we wife is quite sick for a few days. Going for treatment for two. I want to stay in Singapore for a few weeks.

Sources also said that Mirza Fakhrul is suffering from several diseases including high blood pressure, IBS, spine, dental problems, internal carotid artery block in the neck. Mirza Fakhrul went to Singapore for treatment for several years. He went to Singapore for treatment last January 2021.

Besides, while in jail, his wife underwent an operation at Evercare Hospital in the capital. But as it was not successful, he is also being taken to Singapore for better treatment.

A day after the incident of clash with the police in Nayapaltan on December 7, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas were arrested from the house of Uttara Police Intelligence Agency and Shahjahanpur. The next day they were arrested and produced in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in a case of sabotage. On January 5, the High Court granted bail to him and Mirza Abbas for 6 months.

If the state objected against this order, the full bench of the Supreme Court upheld the order of the High Court. He was finally released on January 9.
