The government has turned Parliament into a ‘one-party club’: Fakhrul
Dhaka/
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government has turned the National Assembly into a ‘one-party club’.
He made this complaint at a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on Monday afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said, you see, they (the government) have destroyed every democratic institution. Parliament. What is Parliament? Now the parliament they have created is a parliament. It has created a one-party club. It’s a club of Awami League.
Alleging that the electoral system has been destroyed, BNP Secretary General said, ‘The gateway to democracy is the electoral system. By electing you will form the parliament to run the country, form the cabinet… not so. They destroyed that electoral system. People don’t go to vote. What about voting? I will not have my vote, my vote will be taken by someone else. They (the government) have done all the manipulations necessary for that. Sometimes declaring 154 people uncontested, sometimes voting the night before the polling date and arranging for the state system to declare in their favour. This is the structure they destroyed.
Referring to the 27-point outline as BNP’s dream, he said, “We will definitely present it to the people.” It’s a dream. You can never succeed without a dream. We dream and move forward. We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to our Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman that he presented this outline to the people at the right time along with the party and already there has been a stir among our people. I will ask the combined professional council to hold a whole day workshop on this. Take the initiative to take the opinion of experts and professionals so that we can make a complete proposal.
The Secretary General of BNP condemned the printing of new textbooks for various classes, including the seventh class, insulting all the thoughts, traditions and culture of the people of the country and demanded the withdrawal of those books.
Under the initiative of Samilit Peshajebi Parishad, the party’s Acting Chairman Tarek Rahman announced the discussion meeting titled “State Reform Outline Interpretation and Analysis”. On December 19, BNP announced a 27-point outline of state repair.
