A ‘mentally challenged’ mother has been accused of slitting the throat of a physically challenged sleeping girl in Sunamganj city. The police also arrested the mother.

The murder happened on Wednesday (January 18) around 8 am in Hajipara area of the city. In this incident, mother Achia Begum (55) was arrested and brought to the police station for questioning.

According to the police, brother Noore Alam informed the police about the murder of his mother Farzana who was sleeping in a house in Hajipara Ekala. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and arrested the mother and brought her to the police station. Meanwhile, the body was sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem and the police seized the gun used in the murder.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ehshan Shah visited the spot. He said that the incident happened on Wednesday morning. I came to the spot after receiving the news that the mother had killed her daughter by slitting her throat while she was sleeping. It is initially known that this 22-year-old girl has been physically disabled for a long time. After the girl’s father died of corona, the mother took care of the disabled girl. Maybe he was in trouble for a long time with his disabled daughter. It is initially believed that this can be done to relieve emotional distress. The details will be known after the interrogation of the mother.

Sunamganj Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Wali Ashraf Khan said that the house has been sealed for security reasons. This is being investigated.
