The Tulkalam incident took place last Wednesday (January 4) night when several books of the seventh and ninth classes of 2022 were seized from the employee of a vangadi trader along with a van in Kanighat.

In this incident, Upazila Executive Officer Sumant Banerjee has formed a 3-member committee with Upazila Secondary Education Officer Tarikul Islam, Upazila Primary Education Officer (Acting) Gopal Chandra Sutradhar, Police Station SI Piyush Chandra Singh to investigate the issue of books being seized by the crowd.

Executive Officer Sumant Banerjee directed the members of the committee to quickly investigate and identify those involved and submit a report.

It is known that last Wednesday (January 4) at around 10 o’clock in the night, several local people and Chhatra League leaders arrested an employee of Hafiz Bangadi shop in the town of several hundred books with a van from the side of the Upazila Animal Hospital. After informing Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sumanta Banerjee and Secondary Education Officer Tariqul Islam about the seizure of books of class VII and IX of 2022, Secondary Education Officer Tariqul Islam rushed to the spot. At one point, when asked where he bought these books from, Bangari said that he bought these books by the kg from the Upazila Health Complex. Books were delivered and sold in vans by a young man named Liton Das. Several leaders of Upazila Sramik League and Chhatra League came to the spot after receiving the news of book seizure. They demanded to identify those involved in the sale of books and take action.

At around 1 am, the seized books and Vangari Police Station were handed over to the custody of the Executive Officer Sumant Banerjee. He directed the Thana police to investigate the book seizure immediately. Besides, the executive officer formed a 3-member committee to look into the matter.

In this regard, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Tariqul Islam said that after strictly investigating from whom these old seized books of the year 2022 were bought by the thrift shopkeeper and where the books were brought from, punitive action will be taken against those involved. New books for 2023 have not been detained, new textbooks have been distributed to every school and madrasa. Also there is no possibility to move books from where our text books are kept.

Upazila Executive Officer Sumanta Banerjee said that no new textbooks for 2023 have been sold. An investigation committee has been formed with great importance to find out from whom a shoplifter bought some old books of 2022. Strict action will be taken against those involved in this incident.
