Ukraine’s army claims to have killed 400 Russian soldiers in a missile attack on Donetsk, eastern Ukraine. The missile was fired at a school building in the Russian-held town of Makiivka. which was being used as a base by Russian soldiers.
This information was reported in a BBC report on Monday.
According to the report, the number of dead could not be verified for sure. But pro-Russian authorities in Donetsk have acknowledged the casualties.
A Russian official said the attack was carried out with long-range Himmers rockets supplied to Ukraine by the United States and was a major blow.
Daniil Bezhsonov, a pro-Russian official in Donetsk, said the missile struck just two minutes after midnight on New Year’s Day.
In a message posted on the Telegram messaging app, he said the number of casualties in the attack was still being counted.
Some Russian commentators and bloggers acknowledged the attack, but suggested the death toll was lower than claimed.
Ukraine’s military claimed 400 were killed and 300 wounded in their attack.
Meanwhile, within a few hours of this attack on Makivka, Kiev was the victim of a Russian attack. Last night, the Russian forces carried out several drone and missile attacks targeting critical infrastructure in Kiev.
However, Ukrainian forces claim they have shot down all 39 Iranian-made Shahed drones.
But Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the Russian drone attack damaged several energy facilities and caused power outages.
