Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said that BNP should hold a rally in Suhrawardy Udyan or any open place in Dhaka.
He said this in a briefing on Wednesday evening.
The DMP Commissioner said that if the BNP tries to hold a rally elsewhere without permission, the police will take maximum action as per the law.
Earlier, at his office on Minto Road on Tuesday afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Farooq Hossain said that BNP can hold a rally at Tongi Biswa Ijtema ground or Purbachal International Trade Fair ground if it wants. DMP has no objection to this. Suhrawardy Udyan has been given permission by the police. Even after giving permission, they met the DMP Commissioner and came up with a proposal for an alternative venue. A proposal was made by the BNP to the DC of Motijheel Division for an alternative venue at Arambagh. The police have not thought of allowing alternative venues so far.
BNP leaders say that BNP will choose Nayapaltan if the problem is not resolved on December 10 Dhaka divisional mass meeting venue. The leaders of the party have started preparing for this. The party’s grassroots leaders and activists want to hold a rally in the declared Nayapaltan without compromise or concession. But the policy-making leaders are taking a middle position and want to end their program peacefully.
