The court has sent Titu Mia, a UP member of Ward No. 7 of Selbarash Union of Sunamganj Dharmapasha Upazila, to jail on the charge of stealing ducks and entering the reservoir and attacking the opponents.
On November 19, Ya Amin Islam, son of Sirajul Islam of Bhatapara village, filed a case against six people including Titu Mia. After his arrest in this case, when he was produced in the Dharmapasha Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday afternoon, the judge denied bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier, police arrested him from his village Salop on Tuesday night.
According to the source of the case, Ya Amin’s cousin Rony Mia has about 600 duck farms. These ducks were reared there by depositing them from the lessees of Hirajan reservoir of Sadar Union. However, the accused often stole ducks from there. Protesting this led to conflict between the two sides.
At one point, on November 6, when Roni took the duck to the pond, the opponents went there with native weapons and abused him in unspeakable language. When Roni protested, some people attacked him on Titu Mia’s orders. He was injured.
At that time, people from the neighborhood came forward after hearing Roni’s screams and took him to the Upazila Health Complex and the doctor sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The assailants also allegedly took away around 315 ducks from the pond.
Arfan Ali, the lawyer of the plaintiff, said that there is an allegation against Titu Mia in this case. When the police arrested him and brought him to court, the judge refused bail and sent him to jail.
