BNP’s mass meeting is tomorrow Saturday. However, BNP central executive committee member and Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury expressed hope that Sylhet will become a sea of people by tonight, not tomorrow.
He expressed such hope to the journalists when he visited the meeting ground of Aliya Madrasa on Friday afternoon.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, “We have been doing all our work for the last 13 years keeping obstacles in mind. You see, tomorrow is our rally. People have been leaving since yesterday (Thursday). It has become a demand of the people.
He said, “All our preparations have been completed. All field work completed. After Jumma this Sylhet city will become a sea of people. What you expect tomorrow, you will see tonight that all the cities will be deserted.’
Arif also said, “The people are coming over the hurdles.” No one can say that there are no obstacles. The itch is being scratched at every opportunity, every moment. But I believe one thing, there is a political harmony in Sylhet. All of us to give democratic rights to everyone…such people are in Sylhet. So, except for any overzealous officers here or two or four overzealous law enforcement officers…. Although we have full cooperation, we are getting information that some overzealous law enforcement officers outside are causing two or four isolated incidents.’
BNP’s central microcredit co-editor Abdur Razzak, former general secretary of Mahanagara BNP Badruzzaman Salim, current member secretary Miftah Siddiqui and others were present.
